FAQ
1. I've never tried matcha before — where should I start?
If you're new to matcha, the easiest place to start is with a Matcha Latte.
We've taken the guess work out and naturally sweetened it with some coconut sugar – so you don't need to worry about how to get the balance right.
Simply add a small amount of cold milk to the matcha and mix using a whisk or hand-held milk frother - before adding to a glass of ice and your favourite milk.
Give it a stir and enjoy a smooth café-style drink at home.
Many first-time customers also love our Strawberry Matcha and Mango Matcha blends, which combine our Ultra-Premium Japanese Matcha with natural fruit for a refreshing and approachable flavour.
Matcha is incredibly versatile and easy to incorporate into your daily routine.
2. Will matcha give me jitters like coffee?
Most people find the opposite.
Matcha contains natural caffeine balanced with L-theanine, an amino acid that slows caffeine absorption. This creates calm, sustained energy and focus, rather than the sharp spike and crash often experienced with coffee.
That's why many people switch to matcha for a better way to start the day.
3. What makes Bondi Matcha different from regular matcha?
Bondi Matcha uses the highest-quality matcha sourced directly from Japan and blends it with carefully selected all-natural ingredients.
Many matcha products on the market contain fillers or artificial colours and flavours – but we said NO to all things nasty – and chose to focus on clean, natural ingredients to give you a matcha experience that is vibrant, balanced and easy to enjoy every day.
Not only is it delicious – but it's also good for you.
4. How many drinks can I make from one packet?
This depends on how strong you like your matcha and which blends you are using.
As a general guide for our Ceremonial and Ultra-Premium Matcha:
- 100g makes approximately 33-50 drinks, because it is straight matcha so you'll need less of it
- Most people use 2-3gm or one level teaspoon per serving.
For our Matcha Latte, Strawberry Matcha and Mango Matcha:
- 100g makes approximately 16-20 drinks, because the matcha is blended with other all-natural ingredients.
- Most people use 5-6gm or two teaspoons per serving.
Either way, a single packet can last weeks or even months, making matcha a great value daily ritual.
5. Why is your matcha such a vibrant green colour?
High-quality matcha should always have a bright, vibrant green colour.
This colour comes from shade-growing the tea plants before harvest, which increases chlorophyll levels and produces the smooth, rich flavour that premium matcha is known for.
Lower-quality matcha is often dull or brownish and tends to taste more bitter.
6. Does your matcha contain artificial sweeteners or ingredients?
No artificial ingredients are used in Bondi Matcha.
Our blends are made with natural ingredients only, with no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. This ensures a clean, authentic matcha experience with every cup.
7. How do I prepare matcha at home?
Making matcha might seem daunting but it is actually very simple and takes just minutes.
It's important to note that you will need to prepare your matcha slightly differently, depending on the blend you are using.
Ceremonial Matcha:
Because this is the highest-quality matcha, it is crafted to be whisked, sipped, and savoured on its own.
- Add ½–1 teaspoon of matcha to a bowl (make sure you sift it to get rid of any lumps).
- Add 60–80 ml of hot water (not boiling) water around 80°C.
- Use a bamboo whisk or hand-held frother to mix until smooth.
- Add more hot water into the bowl and mix it together, before pouring into your teacup to enjoy.
Ultra-Premium Matcha:
Still high-quality but not quite ceremonial grade – making it perfect for everyday drinking in hot or iced lattes.
- Add ½–1 teaspoon of matcha to a bowl (make sure you sift it to get rid of any lumps).
- Add 60–80 ml of hot water (not boiling) water around 80°C.
- Use a bamboo whisk or hand-held frother to mix until smooth.
- Add to your choice of milk and sweetener, before stirring to enjoy.
Matcha Latte, Strawberry Matcha and Mango Matcha:
Our unique blends made with all-natural ingredients - perfect for everyday drinking in iced lattes.
- Add 2 teaspoons of matcha to a bowl (make sure you sift it to get rid of any lumps).
- Add 60–80 ml of cold milk (we use cold milk here because we don't want to burn the fruit in these blends).
- Use a bamboo whisk or hand-held frother to mix until smooth.
- Add to your choice of milk - stir and enjoy.
8. Can I drink matcha every day?
Yes. Many people drink matcha daily as part of their morning routine.
Matcha provides gentle, sustained energy and natural antioxidants, making it a popular alternative to coffee.
Most people enjoy 1–2 servings per day.
9. Do I need special equipment to make matcha?
While it's not a make or break, you'll enjoy your matcha more if you make it properly – but you probably already have utensils you can use at home.
While a traditional bamboo whisk creates the smoothest texture, you can also mix your matcha using:
- A small kitchen whisk
- A handheld milk frother
- A shaker bottle
The most important step is making sure you sift your matcha powder before you mix it to get rid of any lumps (you'll thank us later) – and that can be done with any sifter you've got in the cupboard or even a tea strainer would work too.
10. How should I store my matcha?
To keep your matcha fresh and vibrant:
- Store it in a cool, dry place
- Keep the packet sealed after each use
- Avoid exposure to heat, light, and moisture
Proper storage helps preserve matcha's flavour, colour and freshness.
